Working with miCal

Birthdays in Dashboard or events in calendar views are displayed wrong in some cases

This is a bug in the current version (v4.5). It will be fixed with the next update. We apologise for this inconvenience.

I get constantly reminders of past birthdays

This is an error in iOS 6 on your device which affects local notifications globally and therefore can also occur for other apps. The miCal reminder shows the correct date at which the reminder should have appeared once. This shows that miCal told the operating system to trigger the reminder at the correct date. The repetition afterwards is clearly a fault of the operating system. We hope Apple will fix this soon.

Please try the following steps, which helped some users but not all:
1. If you use the option "Remind automatically" in the miCal settings, disable this option.
2. Open the birthday list in miCal by tapping on "Birthdays" in the menu on the lower left.
3. Tap on "All" to remove all the clocks on the right of each birthday.
4. Close miCal.
5. Restart your device.
6. Check if you still get alarms.
7. Wait one day and reactivate the birthday reminders in miCal.

Some events are displayed without a location or notes

This only affects events with attendees in v4.5. This will be fixed in our next update.

How can I change the default calender?

You can change the default calender in the iOS options. Just go to "Mail, Contacts, Calendar" and scroll down to "Default Calendar".

How can I change the color of a calendar?

You can change the color when opening the calendar menu of miCal. Tap then on the color button of the desired calendar. The color of all events from this calendar will be changed. If you have assigned a custom color to a specific event, it won´t be changed.

Contacts and Attendees

miCal supports adding contacts to events since version 2.6 (iPad 1.8). This can be used to, e.g., create a telephone call event (phone number and/or email is displayed) and should not be mixed up with attendees. Adding attendees is currently not supported by iOS.

The weather is not displayed, even though an Internet connection is available!

To make the weather forecast work, you have to activate location services. Please check at the iPhone settings, if location services are enabled globally as well as for miCal ("General -> Location Services").

How can I change or delete a birthday?

You can change or delete a birthday by changing or deleting it within the contact App of your iPhone.

How can I set birthdays of friends who I didn't add to my contacts?

Certainly, you can always simply create birthdays as a yearly recurrent event. On the contrary, if you like to use all the birthday features of miCal, you simply have to assign it to a contact - because miCal's birthday calendar is automatically created from the iOS. All the other features of miCal rely afterwards on informations from your phone's contacts. Because contacts are easy to manage in iOS, that should be no big deal. Maybe you like to call or email some of the new contacts anyways one day?

How can I change between the yearly and monthly view or between the weekly and daily view? A simple tap doesn´t work!

A long tap on the month or day switches directly to the monthly or daily view.

How can I copy or displace events?

To do that, go to the detail view (not the edit view) of an event and drag the whole screen slightly downwards. A little menu with 4 functions will appear. The first one displaces, the second one copies the event!

How can I jump quickly to a certain date?

Tap long on the headline of a view (where the year, month, week or day is displayed).

How can I jump qickly to the current date?

Tap shortly on the headline of a view (where the year, month, week or day is displayed).

How can I create a new event quickly?

Tap within the monthly, weekly or daily view twice on a day or time. The screen for creating a new event will open at once.

I sent an event as ICS, but the recipient didn´t get it!

It´s very likely that you have a Google mail account (also, some Exchange server have this restriction). Unfortunately, Google doesn´t send calendar invitations (so-called ICS files) for unknown security reasons. Instead, their mail server "swallows" the emails completely and simulates to the operating system and thereby also to miCal that the email has been sent. Actually, it doesn´t send them and therefore even doesn´t drop them to the "sent" folder. We can´t do nothing throughout the miCal App to fix this. You´d have to write to Google or contact the mail server admin, if any.

You might also try and check this by simply copying the email you send when sending an event in the email App into a new email. The email won´t get there (if the file attachment was copied correctly).

This is really no good, but unfortunately we can´t do nothing about.

I can´t see all-day events!

You have to unhide the all-day events in the landscape week view. You can do this using the little button with the two arrows below the calendar week. Push there and the events will appear.

Since I use miCal, my battery dies more quickly.

We did a lot of tests, and because of our experience and technical restrictions we know for sure that it can´t be miCal which attacks your battery power. The reason is, miCal isn´t licensed by Apple for running in the background (you have to register for this specifically in the iOS). After you´ve closed it, the miCal App definitely can´t be running anymore. We suggest that you have another App running or some system setting which lets your battery die. This could be email calendar accounts which pushes all the time, or calendar subscriptions in the system settings which you don´t update manually. Or you have Apps like Skype or other messengers running in the background. To check this, restart your system and don´t start any App afterwards. If the system still burns your battery, it´s a setting, otherwise it is most likely an App running in the background.

How can I integrate events and contacts from Facebook?

You can find an instruction here:
https://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=102366218913

miCal displays different timelines than the iPhone calendar.

Please take a look at the settings of your global time zone. Go to "mail, contacts, calendar"->"time zone support" and check if it matches with your current time zone.

How can I repeat an event every x days/weeks/months/years?

An event can be repeated for e.g. every second week.
- Set up a new event
- Set up starting and ending time
- Choose "repetition"
- Choose then in "repetition" "weekly"
- Choose then in "repeating all" "2 weeks"
- Choose in "repeat at" the accordant day of the week
- Choose in "end of repetition" either the number of your repetitions or the date of the last repitition.

Can I repeat an event weekly (monthly) on certain week days (days)?

To do this, simply activate the weekly (monthly) repetition and choose in "repeat at" one or more week days. This feature also works out with synchronized calendars (Exchange, Google)!

I can´t change/delete my events anymore.

The operating system might have put a write-protection to particular events. Please check if the write-protection is activated in the standard iPhone calendar. Maybe the iOS/your account sync doesn´t work properly. You may possibly have to reset it (please be careful because of data loss)

miCal does not display the colors of Outlook! Can I tag events as "private" or "business" and communicate this to the Exchange calendar?

Unfortunately, this is not possible due to technical reasons. The iPhone calendar can´t pass this data on while synchronizing.

holidays/vacations

How can I add holidays/vacations etc.?

Since version 3.1 you can subscribe to holidays and other calendars directly in miCal.
To do this, go to the miCal settings, then to "holidays, vacations". Then simply tap the calendar in the correspondent category. After a short while, a message asking you wether to subscribe to this calendar or not will appear. After you approved it, the calendar will be added directly to the iOS and you can change its color as you like it. For this, go in the miCal settings to "calendars" and tap the little color selection button in the accordant calendar.

Note:
If the calendar you subscribed to or its events is not displayed in miCal at once, please go to "settings" -> "calendars" and tap "sync calendars manually".

For subscribing first to a calendar, an Internet connection is required. Afterwards, you don´t need one!

How do I remove a calendar I subscribed to?
Due to technical reasons, calendar subscriptions can only be deleted in the global iPhone settings of your device. Please go to "settings" -> "mail, contacts, calendars". You can find calendar subscriptions as last option in "accounts". Here you can open your calendar subscription and remove it from your device.

Do the subscriptions for holidays and vacations cost anything?

No, any subscriptions are for free - even if the term "subscription" is little misleading. This is the correct definition in the iPhone settings.

Synchronization and calendar

I have problems syncing with Outlook

You can find a selection of useful links here:

Outlook problems:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1692

A common source of problems for the outloook sync is: Outlook has some problems with syncing events with a 0 minutes reminder. Please select all this events from Outlook and change or remove the reminder. More Infos:

Past events aren't visible in miCal

First, please check if the native iOS calendar app from Apple (iOS calendar) shows past events.

If they aren't visible, please check the following setting: global settings->"Mail, Contacts, Calendar"->"Sync" (at the bottom of the screen)

If you synchronize your device via USB and iTunes with e.g. Outlook on your computer, connect your device with your computer and start iTunes. In the left column select your device. In the right column go to "Info" and scroll down to the section "Calendar". Check if there's a checkmark before the option "Do not synchronize events older than ... days".

If the iOS calendar doesn't show past events even though you changed the mentioned settings above you have to contact Apple's support team. miCal works on top of the iOS calendar and therefore can only display what the iOS calendar shows.

At last, please check the miCal setting "Load month". miCal loads by default the last 2 month and can load a maximum of 12 or 24 months (depending on the device) backward.

How can I change the default calender?

You can change the default calender in the iOS options. Just go to "Mail, Contacts, Calendar" and scroll down to "Default Calendar".

Can I synchronize my events between iPad and iPhone using miCal?

A direct synchronization between devices running miCal isn't possible. You have to use an external calendar service, e.g. Google, MobileMe etc, or synchronize all of your devices with your PC/Mac to keep the events in sync.

miCal doesn´t display every calendar that is displayed by the iPhone calendar!

Please restart miCal. Here's how to do it:
- Double-tap on the home button
- Search for the miCal symbol
- Press and hold the miCal symbol for some time, until a red minus appears.
- Tap the minus to completely end miCal.

Not every Google calendar is being displayed. Why?

First, you have to release the calendar for synchronization.

If you like to release it with Exchange
- Visit with the Safari Browser of your iPhone m.google.com/sync
- Ignore the statement "Google Sync is not supported on your iPhone"
- tap "Change language" and select "English (UK)" or "English (US)"
- Login with your Google account (if not happened yet)
- Set up the calendar for synchronization.

For the installation via CalDAV or Gmail account:https://www.google.com/calendar/iphoneselect

Then, start the iPhone calendar and check the calendars.

At last, restart miCal.

Does miCal synchronize with MobileMe, Google, …?

miCal supports every calendar that can be used with the iPhone calendar.
miCal synchronizes only with the iPhone calendar. Every event you add to miCal is displayed within the iPhone calendar and vice versa.

How can I synchronize miCal with Google?

To do that, you have to set up the Google calendar on the iPhone.

Settings

What is the standby function all about?

"Standby off" "Off" => Everything works as before. After a certain time, the iPhone slips into the standby mode. "Standby off" "On" => The iPhone screen is always active. It doesn´t go into the standby mode.

How can I change the reminder sounds?

Reminder functions of miCal are based on the reminder functions of iOS. That's why, unfortunately, the reminder sounds can't be changed due to technical reasons.

What does "weekdays below each other" in the settings mean?

If this is activated, the days will change their sorting order in the week view:
Left: Mo, Di, Mi, Do
Right: Fr, Sa, So

What does "Simple Color Scheme" and "Rounded Corners" in the settings mean?

With that option, you can see changes in the day view and landscape week view. The fields will be (not) rounded, there will be (no) effects applied to the colors.

What does "Event Accuracy" in the settings mean?

If you happened to work with, for example, iCal so far, you'd have had only the possibility to create events with an accuracy of 5 minutes. In miCal, you can set it up to 1 minute precise or stick to the 5 minutes, just as you like.

Add-ons

I can't restore a add-on

If you're using the same iTunes account as for buying miCal you can buy the add-on again free of charge. During the checkout you'll get a note that buying the add-on is free.

I can't buy a add-on!

You might try/ensure the following:
- Resart your device and and log off and on to your iTunes account in the AppStore.
- Start miCal and go to settings->add-ons. Wait right there 1-2 minutes for the AppStore sending an answer.

Additionally, please make sure you haven't deactivated in-app purchase in your device's global settings ("general->restrictions")!

How can I delete a customized list in my Task Add-on?

You can change or delete customized lists (or tasks in the lists) by tapping on the pen symbol beside the search box. Afterwards, a little minus appears in front of every list (or task) to delete it. In this view, you can also arrange your customized lists by pulling the little "strap" on the right or change their features (title, color, symbol) yourself by tapping on the pen symbol.

(Alternatively, you can also delete a single list or task by swiping over it with your finger and then tap the "delete" button.)

I've bought the Communication Add-on. How can I access the print menu?

Please long tap the menu button at the lower left. It will display a second menu with the print options.

I've bought the Export Add-on. How can I access the export menu?

Please long tap the menu button at the lower left. It will display a second menu with the export options. Please note: You'll find the CSV export in the miCal options.
